Energy sector in India is passing through a crucial phase with massive capacity additions required to meet the ever increasing demand for power. Hydropower is being given the top priority by Government of India for adding power generation capacities in the country. NHPC being the premier Central Sector organization in the field of hydropower development has an important role to play. NHPC after its inception in 1975 with an initial share capital of about `200 Crs, in its journey of 38 years has grown into an organization with authorized share capital of `15000 crs. NHPC has been conferred with Mini Ratna status and accordingly the powers of the Board has been increased. The Board has further delegated enhanced powers to the Chairman & Managing Director.
Delegation is one of the tools of empowerment and is the guiding manual and helps in taking right decision by the right man at the right time. Its proper and judicious use can help in faster decisions and overall operational efficiency. However, the operational difficulties being faced during the use of DOP always leave the scope for its improvement so as to make it more effective and compatible with the changing environment. The last delegation of Powers was revised w.e.f 22nd March, 2010.
Subsequently, a number of Circulars have been issued since 22.03.2010 to amend the existing DOP. These amendments have been incorporated and the existing DOP has been revised accordingly.
I am sure that the revised edition of DOP shall further help its users in discharging their duties more effectively.
